New names, new faces: At BMI, the Indigenous Initiatives team moves beyond Indigenous Relations and into a future of shared, actionable initiatives
We are proud to announce that one of our teams is entering a new chapter with renewed focus and purpose. As of today, our Indigenous Relations department will be known as Indigenous Initiatives.
This change represents a commitment to building new pathways rooted in respect, relationship, and responsibility. It reflects our dedication to fostering meaningful dialogue, co-creating spaces for Indigenous voices, and supporting reconciliation through action and understanding.
At BMI, the Indigenous Initiatives team—led by Darrin Spence (Marten Falls First Nation) and Ken Ogima (Fort William First Nation)—has moved beyond Indigenous Relations and into a future of shared, actionable initiatives built on sovereignty, capacity building, and mutual respect.
Indigenous Initiatives symbolizes a new beginning—one that honours the knowledge, leadership, and resilience of Indigenous communities, while challenging us all to listen more deeply, act more consciously, and walk together in a spirit of partnership and transformation.
We are excited for what lies ahead and invite everyone to join us in this journey toward equity, recognition, and shared growth.
